What Our Guests Say
There is nothing quite like hearing about a stay at Dove Cottage from the people who matter most: our guests. While we take great pride in the restoration of this former Victorian fishing lodge, it is the experiences had within its walls that truly bring it to life. Here are their voices, sharing stories of riverside walks, cosy evenings by the wood-burning stoves, and quiet moments enjoyed in a very special corner of the Peak District.
We love to hear how our guests have made the cottage their own, whether that is stepping straight from the garden onto the footpath leading to Dovedale, enjoying a long summer evening barbecuing by the river, or simply soaking in the tranquillity of the setting overlooking the historic watermill. Set on the banks of the River Dove beneath Shining Tor, the cottage offers a genuine escape, and we are incredibly proud when our visitors leave feeling refreshed and restored.
Please take a few moments to browse their honest thoughts and experiences. We hope their words help you to imagine your own retreat to this beautiful part of Derbyshire.
“We honestly couldn’t have asked for more. The cottage is beautifully presented and had absolutely everything we needed for the week. What really stood out were the little extras—fresh milk in the fridge, local biscuits, and even a dog blanket and bowl for our spaniel. It’s tucked away down a quiet lane, so the only sounds were birdsong and the occasional sheep. A perfect base for exploring the Derbyshire Dales.”
“If you’re after peace and quiet, this is the place. The building is full of character but feels warm and modern inside, which isn’t always easy to pull off. We spent most evenings just sitting in the little courtyard watching the sunset over the fields. It’s remote enough to feel like an escape, but still just a short drive to Bakewell and Chatsworth. We’ll definitely be rebooking.”
“A proper home-from-home in the middle of the Peak District. The conversion has been done to such a high standard—comfortable beds, a well-stocked kitchen, and underfloor heating, which was lovely on the cooler mornings. It’s incredibly peaceful, surrounded by farmland, and perfect for long walks straight from the door. Just what we needed to recharge.”
“We booked this cottage for a long weekend with friends and it was ideal. Plenty of space, spotlessly clean, and in such a tranquil spot. The views from the bedroom windows are gorgeous—just rolling green hills as far as you can see. It felt private and secluded, yet the owners were nearby if we needed anything. A real find in the Derbyshire countryside.”
“From the moment we arrived, we felt completely relaxed. The cottage manages to feel both spacious and cosy, and you can tell a lot of thought has gone into making it comfortable for guests. We loved the peace and quiet—no traffic noise, no light pollution, just fresh air and starry skies. A wonderful retreat after days out walking. Can’t recommend it highly enough.”
